6/6 - Unfinished Solid Hardwood Flooring Plank vs. Solid Hardwood Floor Border Inlays

Unfinished Solid Hardwood Flooring Plank vs. Solid Hardwood Floor Border Inlays (6/6)

This material analyses the compatibility between the solid unfinished, 20 mm thick, hardwood flooring plank and the solid unfinished border and medallion inlays.

The hardwood floor borders (also named ”wood floor borders” or ”parquet borders”) shown in the left side of the image is worked at a 10 mm thickness. This border (valid for the hardwood floor medallion inlays too) is built solid (top-to-bottom made from a single piece of solid hardwood) is naturally compatible with solid hardwood flooring or with parquet flooring. Our inlays are delivered as unfinished (no finish whatsoever applied to the surface).

The installation should be done the traditional way: glue down-sanding-finishing. To compensate the thickness difference between the inlay (in this case 10 mm or 2/5 in) and the plank (in this case 20 mm or 4/5 in.) a 10 mm (2/5 in.) thick plywood (could be an OSB) is installed under as support. Right side of the above image is an unfinished (factory delivered with no finish on the face) Oak hardwood flooring plank with a 20 mm thickness and a width of 180 mm. The plank is built with T&G (Tongue & Groove) system that allows interconnection between planks inside the installation. This type of solid (solid means built from a single piece of wood top-to-bottom) hardwood flooring can be used in combination with inlays whether these are borders or medallions. Conclusion: compatible with the inlays.
