This
article is about the compatibility between the 3 layers, 14 mm thick,
prefinished engineered hardwood
flooring and the solid unfinished inlays - whether they are hardwood floor
borders or medallions.
The hardwood floor borders (also named ”wood floor borders” or ”parquet
borders”) shown in the left side of the image is worked at a 10 mm
thickness. This border (valid for the hardwood floor medallion inlays too)
is built solid (top-to-bottom made from a single piece of solid hardwood) is
naturally compatible with solid hardwood flooring or with parquet flooring.
Our inlays are delivered as unfinished (no finish whatsoever applied to the
surface).
The installation is done the traditional way: glue
down-sanding-finishing. Right side of the above image is a 3 layers
prefinished engineered hardwood flooring. This particular type of hardwood
flooring is composed from a sandwich of three layers. In this case the top
layer (2,5 mm - 1/10 inch thick) is made of the precious wood (here is Oak) the
rest of two have less value and their function is to provide support and
dimensional stability against moisture variations. The fact that this
flooring comes prefinished (with a layer of factory-applied
urethane/lacquer) and the fact that the top layer is as thin as 2,5mm (1/10
inch) makes it highly improbable to be installed with inlays. Our conclusion: incompatible with the
inlays.
